Siem Reap – Thanksgiving at Genevieve’s Restaurant
As I had mentioned in my “Latest” page, we had our Thanksgiving dinner at a great little restaurant in downtown Siem Reap – Genevieve’s. Set up by an Australian Phil Rogers and named after his late wife (died from cancer in 2009). Originally he had no connection with Cambodia, a few years after his wife past away he came to Siem Reap with his daughter as a tourist (see Angkor Wat, etc.). He fell in love with the country, so much so that he gave up everything back in Australia and moved to Siem Reap to teach English to poor children. After being here a few years and with the help of locals, he opened Genevieve’s Restaurant.
The restaurant was set up to give back to the community (Cambodia one of the poorest countries in southeast Asia). 10% of all their profit is divided between the staff. 10% is split between 4 charities, and the remainder goes to a school/community project around Siem Reap.
On this day of giving thanks, I cannot think of a better place to spend our Thanksgiving!
