Timeline to Thailand
We Arrive to Bangkok | Shangri-La Hotel & Chatrium Hotel Riverside
After a wonderful flight on Korean Air, we finally arrive to Bangkok! Our plan is to spend the first two weeks in Bangkok as a vacation, first staying in our favorite Bangkok hotel, Shangri-La Bangkok and then trying out the Chatrium Hotel Riverside (both on the Chao Phraya River).
Moved into New Bangkok Condo (in Samut Prakran)
It only took us 8 days to find the perfect condo… The Metropolis Condominium! (Southern Bangkok – Samut Prakan Province). Its not easy sharing our home with Superman, but we manage 😉. We love our 34th floor view, overlooking the less developed southern region of Bangkok where the Chao Phraya River feeds into the Gulf of Thailand.
Settling into Our Brand New Condo & Surroundings
Everything new, fresh and exciting… We spent the first few weeks settling in to our brand new condo (we were the first tenants). This also included checking out our surroundings (local markets, shops and stores).
First Trip | Visit Family in Kanchanaburi
Kanchanaburi | Sep 26-30th | Today we take our first trip in Thailand – visiting Kanchana’s family in Kanchanaburi.
Bangkok Chinatown Vegetarian Festival | Tesagan Gin Je
Bangkok Chinatown | Oct 04 | Today we visited the Vegetarian Festival (also known as in Tesagan Gin Je) in Bangkok’s famous Chinatown district. This event brings an overload of vegetarian food, banging drums, crashing symbols, dancing dragons and firecrackers!
Chak Phra Festival | Pulling the Buddha | Surat Thani
Surat Thani | Oct 11-19th | Today we took a last minute trip (flight) to visit the Chak Phra Festival in Surat Thani. Also known as the “Pulling the Buddha” festival, the Chak Phra Festival in Surat Thani (and throughout Thailand) celebrates the return of the Buddha from heaven and signifies the official end of the Buddhist three month rain retreat (usually in October).
Fire Department Safety Presentation
Metropolis Condo | Oct 20th | Today we participated in a half day, local fire department safety presentation at our condo (Metropolis). Since we’ve never lived in a such a large condominium (40 stories) we felt it was important to attend. In the end, it was a lot of fun and a wonderful experience!
Thai Travel Clinic
Bangkok | Oct 29th | Today we visited the Thai Travel Clinic in Bangkok to get the following: Typhoid Booster ($16), Japanese Encephalitis Booster ($16), Rabies (1st out of 2 shots) – Second shot is needed a week later ($14 each) and Flu Shot ($11).
Kingdom of Bhutan Trip | 13 Day Cultural Tour
Bhutan | Nov 07-19th | Today we flew to the Kingdom of Bhutan to begin our 13 day cross country tour. We started by flying into Paro, then on to Thimphu, Punakha, Gangtey, Trongsa, Jakar, Bumthang, Tang and at day 10 we reached Chume. After this we started our return journey back to Paro where we finished with hiking up to the famous Tiger’s Nest.
Thanksgiving Dinner at JW Café | JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok
Bangkok | Nov 28th – Thanksgiving Day | Had a wonderful Thanksgiving meal at JW Café in JW Marriott Hotel Bangkok.
Tokyo, Japan Trip | 5 Day
Tokyo, Japan | Dec 5-11th | Today we began our last minute, 5 day trip to Tokyo, Japan. Only 5 days but yet we got to stay (Millennium Mitsui Garden Hotel Tokyo) and visit Ginza Shopping District, Tokyo Midtown Winter Illumination 2019, Roppongi Hills Winter Illumination and German Christmas Market, Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji fish market, Meiji Shrine (and Yoyogi Park), Omotesando Illumination 2019 (sponsored by Google Pixel), Shibuya “Blue Cave” Winter Illumination 2019, experienced the famous “Scramble” at Shibuya Crossing, Sensō-ji (Asakusa Kannon Temple), Sengakuji Temple (Grave Site of 47 Ronin) and the Tokyo Imperial Palace – primary residence of the Emperor of Japan.
Christmas Dinner at The Rain Tree Cafe | The Athenee Hotel Bangkok
Bangkok | Dec 25th – Christmas Day | Enjoyed an incredible Christmas themed dinner (complete with Christmas Carolers) at The Rain Tree Cafe in The Athenee Hotel Bangkok.
