Kalaw – 6+ Mile Trekking
After checking into the hotel is was time for our 6+ mile trekking journey through a mountain side in Kalaw. This part of the country is so beautiful – colorful landscapes, great views and a glimpse into the rural life of Myanmar (visiting a local hill-tribe village). When we finished here it was time to make the return trip back to our vehicle – where the trails were a bit more intense.
The land here is so rich and fertile everything grown here flourishes – as if everything is on steroids. While trekking we came across what we thought was a small snake, it turned out to be an earthworm! Yes this is a 12″ long Myanmar earthworm (see below)! We ended up seeing several of these along the trip.
Out of the endless fields of fruits and vegetables we saw, here’s a few of the ones that stood out:
- Tangerine Groves (which we sampled – very tasty!)
- Cabbages
- Dragon Fruit
- Coffee
- Tea
- Avocados
- Potatos
- and of course… Rice!
