First Day in Bangkok…

We spent our first day in Bangkok by checking out the shopping complexes – Central World and Siam Paragon. Our hotel is located off Sukhumvit Road which is one of the main roads through Bangkok.  As most major cities they have a subway / rail system that runs through out the city.  In the area where we are they have an elevated combined multi-rail (BTS and MRT) and walkway system (called SkyWalk) that runs over the middle of Sukhumvit Road.  With all of the heavy traffic congestion, the SkyWalk is the safest and easiest way of getting around the shopping district.

Central World Shopping Complex

As mentioned before, its quoted as being the 6th largest shopping complex in world.  Its big, impressive… Its 6 million square feet of shopping madness!  Coming in with 8 floors, It offers just about every store you can think of and more – 500 stores, 50 restaurants, 21 screen movie theater and a ice skating rink.

Siam Paragon Shopping Complex

This is another big and impressive shopping center that comes in 10 floors.  Its not quite is big as Central World but if offers more of an upscale experience.  Along with the aquarium they have a wing just for European and exotic sports cars (such as BMW, Rolls Royce, Lotus, Lamborghini, etc.)

Central World Outdoor Market

We finished the night out by stopping off at the Central World Outdoor Market.  This market was made up of 3 sections.  There was hot Thai food (cooked in front of you), cold prepared Thai foods, fresh fruits (and fruit drinks) and Thai deserts.  Then there was the area that had plants and flowers.  The last area had games set up much like what you see at the State Fair.  Everything looked and smelled so good.

  • Dean, you have found the flaw with our entire foreign policy which has angered the world at the USA! Krispy Kream doughnuts! I will quickly start working on deal with our heads of State to start sending Daylight donuts overseas. We should have this cleared up by the time you return! Thanks for doing the leg work on this issue! Way to take one for the team!

    • Nothing to clear up, Krispy Kreme will knock the “Daylights” out of any competition. I stand unified with the world as we gladly take one (by one)… Krispy Kreme Donut for the team!
